The Alta Ice Hotel is situated in Sorrisniva
(formerly Alta Friluftspark), 20 kilometres
from Alta town centre - in idyllic surroundings
on the banks of the Alta River in the Finnmark
region (northeastern Norway). From here,
it's only 3 hours to the North Cape.
It is open from mid January to mid April
(weather dependant). |
The Alta Igloo Hotel Norway's largest and northernmost Ice Hotel is constructed every year from blocks of ice cut out of the nearby Alta river. The igloo is an area of 1,600 square metres of guest rooms, amenities, several lounges, an ice bar, a chapel, and an impressive ice gallery that will takes your breath away when it is lit at night. The weather outside can be bitingly cold
but on the inside, the 20 guest rooms (50
beds) of the Igloo Hotel keep a constant
temperature of -4 to -6 degrees Celsius (21-25
degrees Fahrenheit). Guests sleep in cozy
sleeping bags on authentic, traditional reindeer
fur. Guests can warm up in the hotel's sauna and hot tubs or visit the ice bar where you meet other guests in the evening and have the bartender pour some blue-tinted Vodka into your ice glass. It definitely goes with the decorations! As with most ice hotels, the bathrooms at the Alta Igloo Hotel are found in a separate building, which is heated. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
