Sadly, no British winner!

Silverstone 6th to 8th July, 2012

It was muddy, it was cold, it was windy and it was absolutely tipping it down with rain, but despite that the fans came out to watch the  British Grand Prix, 6th to 8th July, 2012.

My passion for motor sport started in my early 20’s when I took part in autocross and rallying. Although I have watched the Grand Prix races on the TV for many, many years, this was my first visit to a live race. And what a wonderful experience it was, despite the weather.

We stayed, on circuit, in a Snoozebox, which was very comfy and convenient. This unique accommodation is located right inside the circuit, just minutes from the action. The dinners were excellent, given the lack of good cooking facilities and the numbers being catered for (250 snoozeboxes).

We had open admission tickets for Friday and Saturday and corporate hospitality suite for Sunday. Friday’s ticket allows you to sit or stand anywhere (except the central area and the pits). So we tried many of the grandstands – Woodcote Corner, National Pits Straight and Copse Corner. In the evening we walked around anti-clockwise to the start line at the International Pits Straight. On Saturday our tickets limited us to standing areas only so we made our way around to Becketts Corner, where we sheltered from the rain under the overhanging roof of the grandstand. Sunday was a fantastic day with access to the central area, the hospitality suite at Woodcote Corner and a seat in the grandstand on Wellington Straight.

It was a weekend full of great racing – F1, GP2, GP3 and Historic F1, air shows (including the Red Arrows) and additional live entertainment on a massive stage with a post-race party that included interviews with the drivers on the stage. No time to get bored!

Sadly, there was no British winner – our guys only managing 8th (Lewis), 10th (Jenson) with Paul Di Resta retiring after the first lap with a puncture following an incident. Mark Webber was the winner having passed Alonso a few laps from the end of the race and Vettel came third.

Congratulations to Mark
