Kawe
Island on the Equator
It was an early start for some of us as we boarded the Xplorer to cruise over the equator at
sun rise before visiting the Indonesian Equator monument on the tiny Kawe Island.
Penemu
Stunning scenery
We cruised to Penemu Lagoon in the Fam Island group. We boarded Xplorer and went
through a gap in the jagged limestone coastline into the lagoon. We climbed up 320 steep
steps to the lookout to see stunning views of the limestone Karsts and azure coloured
waters.
Aljui Bay
Pristine coral and thousands of fish
We cruised to the private reef area of Aljui Bay, situated on the edge of Waigeo Island. The
stunning coral and scenery are the most pristine found anywhere. After seeking
permission from the local village we were all in the water. We were greeted with the most
amazing sight of thousands of coloured fish and an abundance of sponges, sea stars,
feather stars, Christmas tree worms and many invertebrates. I dived along the reef wall
and saw amazing corals and nudibranchs.
By mid afternoon we had cruised to Penemu Lagoon in the Fam Island group. We boarded
Xplorer and went through a gap in the jagged limestone coastline into the lagoon. We
climbed up 320 steep steps to the lookout to see stunning views of the limestone Karsts
and azure coloured waters.
